Abstract

Civil and architectural infrastructures can be made from various kinds of engineering materials; for example, steel and concrete bridges are typically employed in construction.  The physical and mechanical behavior of infrastructures relies on the properties of the solid materials we used.  Hence, the chemical, physical and mechanical properties of civil and architectural materials must be measured and verified for their validity before they are utilized in construction to ensure the safety and durability of infrastructures.  In the book, the samplings, and physical and mechanical tests on the traditional civil and architectural materials including cement, aggregate, concrete, asphalt, brick and steel rebar are introduced and discussed in details.  At the same time, the corresponding measurement standard, materials, objective, procedure, calculation formula, remarks and example of experimental results for each test are also given to provide a further understanding about its scientific basis and experimental technique.  It is hoped that the properties of civil and architectural materials can be accurately obtained by conducting different experimental measurements under various conditions.
